2016 Auspicious Culture Gold and Silver Commemorative Coins are to be issued

The People’s Bank of China is to issue a set of 2016 Auspicious Culture gold and silver commemorative coins on March 22nd 2016. The set consists of 8 coins, including 4 gold coins and 4 silver coins, all of which are the legal tender of the People’s Republic of China.


I. Design of the coins

i. Obverse design

The set of gold and silver commemorative coins bear the common obverse of the National Emblem of the People’s Republic of China, the title of PRC and the year date.

ii. Reverse design

The “Wu Fu Gong Shou” coins include a 8g gold coin and a 30g silver coin, which will be issued on March 22nd. The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature longevity peaches and bats, a symbol of good fortune, the idiom “wu fu gong shou” in Chinese, literally “five blessings surround longevity”, and the face value.


The “Gua Die Mian Mian” coins include a 8g gold coin and a 30g silver coin, which will be issued on April 26th.The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature a calabash pattern composed of pumpkins and vines, decorated by butterflies, the idiom “gua die mian mian” in Chinese, literally “plentiful offsprings like vigorous plants”, and the face value.


The “Bing Di Tong Xin” coins include a 8g gold coin and a 30g silver coin, which will be issued on May 18th.The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature Mandarin ducks and twin lotus flowers against decorative designs of lotus leaves, the idiom “bing di tong xin” in Chinese, literally “twin lotus flowers on one stalk and devoted couple with one heart”, and the face value.


The “Nian Nian You Yu” coins include a 8g gold coin and a 30g silver coin, which will be issued on June 22nd.The reverse of the gold and silver coins feature lotus flowers and koi carp, the idiom “nian nian you yu” in Chinese, literally “may every year end with plentiful surplus”, and the face value.


II. Specifications and mintage of the coins

  1. 8g round gold coins (three pieces) are proof in quality, 22mm in diameter, 100Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 8 grams of pure gold. The total mintage for each is 30000 pieces.

  2. 30g round silver coins (three pieces) are proof in quality, 40mm in diameter, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 30 grams of pure silver. The total mintage for each is 60000 pieces.

  3. 8g heart-shaped gold coin is proof in quality, 22mm in the length of the external square, 100 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 8 grams of pure gold. The total mintage is 30000 pieces.

  4. 30g heart-shaped silver coin is proof in quality, 40mm in the length of the external square, 10 Yuan in face value, 99.9% in fineness and contains 30 grams of pure silver. The total mintage is 60000 pieces.


III. The set of gold and silver coin is minted by Shenzhen Guobao Mint Co., Ltd and Shenyang Mint Co., Ltd, and solely distributed by China Gold Coin Incorporation. For more information about the distribution channels please visit www.chngc.net.
